Welcome to the Civil Justice Foundation
The Civil Justice Foundation is a national charitable organization dedicated to safeguarding justice for all Americans by strengthening the alliance between trial attorneys and consumer advocacy groups. The Foundation was founded in 1986 by members of the American Association for Justice (formerly ATLA) and a group of consumer advocates who believed that all Americans - particularly working families, individual workers, and consumers - deserve unobstructed access to the civil justice system.
It is the only national foundation devoted solely to protecting the individual rights, health, and well-being of the injured - providing small but significant grants to the tireless organizations fighting for injury prevention and justice preservation across the country. Since its inception, CJF has awarded over $1.4 million to 112 consumer advocacy organizations throughout North America. By providing a voice to the voiceless, these pioneering groups seek to preserve the constitutional rights afforded to all Americans by the civil justice system.
To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $1,000,000 to more than 100 organizations.

The Civil Justice Foundation Announces
Donald Davis As A Community Champion Recipient
(Washington, DC)– Each year, at its Breakfast of Champions during the AAJ (Formerly ATLA) summer convention, the Civil Justice Foundation honors one or more Community Champions. Community Champions are consumer advocates who have performed outstanding work on behalf of injured consumers, to prevent injury, and/or to preserve a consumer's access to justice.
Donald was a mid-50ish man who raised his family by being a department manager at his local Home Depot in suburban Philadelphia. He had foot pain and went to a local podiatrist who negligently performed podiatric arthroplasty. The result of these procedures was that Donald ended up a double amputee.
While many in Donald's position would have rolled up in a ball in the fetal position, Donald chose to fight. The litigation in a conservative county which resulted in the highest verdict by far in county history was the easy part. Donald spoke out against caps; he volunteered his time at a local rehabilitation hospital to help new amputees in the same position that he had been to cope with their new found predicament; and, he continues to fight against anti-consumer legislation while meeting with legislators to promote pro-consumer legislation. Recently, he has been a driving force in Pennsylvania in helping draft legislation which sets up a workers compensation like payment system to ensure that Pennsylvania's amputees get prosthetic limbs when needed. Since the medical error and positive outcome of the case Mr. Davis has been an advocate for disabled rights and fighting for legislation to allow the disabled the opportunities they deserve. For these reasons and many more Donald Davis will be receiving the Civil Justice Foundation’s Community Champion Award this July in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
